Taverna & Museum Poliou in Asteri
The taverna in Asteri is a combination of Taverna and Museum. The owner Giorgos has all his adult life collected local antiques and pieces from his village and home in Asteri. The family of Polioudakis has lived in the house for generations.
The rooms of the museum are a faithful representation of the traditional house with furniture of the old times, while the walls of the house are decorated with archival photographic material. More specifically the kitchen, the dining room, the lounge, and the bedroom with the unique hand-carved cradle, were all formed according to the old era.
The taverna serves truly traditional Cretan dishes, all made according to age-old recipes and mostly from local products.
It is a lovely taverna with delicious food and it is certainly worth a visit.
