Cleaning in Villas

Most VILLAS clean every 3rd or 4th day. This is called “twice a week cleaning”. Towels and linen are changed at the same time.
Bed linen, sheets and towels are provided, towels only for indoor use. Pool and beach towels are only provided unless separately mentioned.

Kitchen utensils, plates, cups, cutlery and kitchen ware in villas

As a standard the villas are equipped with cooking and dinning ware for the number of persons the villa can accommodate. There will be pots and pans for simple cooking. There will be a bread knife and a small knife for vegetables. If you need more specialised equipment such as a sharp knife or potato peeler you might want to bring it with you.

Also tea-towels are never provided. If there is no left-over dishwashing liquid, you can buy this in all supermarkets. Normally the previous visitors have left salt and pepper, but it is not provided by the owners.

Many villa owners will leave some small things like olive oil, dried Cretan bread other things.

Cleaning in Apartments

Normal standard for family HOTEL APARTMENTS is cleaning 5 – 6 days a week.

Change of linen and towels twice a week. Towels are only provided for indoor use unless separately mentioned.

In apartments without reception and restaurant cleaning id every 3rd or 4th day. This is called “twice a week cleaning”. Towels and linen are changed at the same time. Towels are only provided for indoor use unless separately mentioned.

Kitchenettes in Apartments

Apartments have a small kitchenette with enough basic plates, cups, glasses and cutlery for the number of occupants. There will be a small frying pan, one or 2 pots. Many places also have an electric kettle or a coffee-maker; very few kitchenettes have oven or micro-wave, although it does exist.

Cleaning and maid service in Hotels

2 – 3 star HOTELS the cleaning is normally 6 times days week with twice weekly change of bed linen in 4 and 5 star hotels it is 7 days a week.

4 – 5 star HOTELS normally have daily maid service and change of linen every day or 2 days.

Towels are only provided for indoor use unless separately mentioned.

Drinking and tap water

Crete has very good tap water in most areas, especially outside the larger towns. In some areas the water has a bit mineral taste. The water is normally clean and drinkable. If you do not want to drink the water where you are staying, you can buy bottled water in all supermarkets and kiosks. For babies, small children and elderly you should buy bottled water.

Toilets in Crete

The drainage in Crete and Greece for that matter is not capable of taking paper such as toilet paper. Therefore there are provided baskets in the WC’s for waste. Please use these as the drainage easily clogs up.
