Rethymnon South Coast

Rethymnon South coast includes the charming seaside resorts Plakias Village, Preveli and the small village of Rodakino. You also find many other small villages along the narrow mountain road. The area is rugged and original, but the hospitality is true Cretan and never fails, stop for a snack or a meal in one of the small cafes or tavernas on the road and you will see.

The Fishing Village of Plakias

The old Cretan fishing village of Plakias with its little harbour, lies in a particularly beautiful landscape between the blue Libyan Sea and vast majestic mountains that edge down to one of the loveliest bays on the south coast. It is about one and a half hour’s drive from Chania or Heraklion.

Many years ago, there were only a few houses, but today, because of its delightful setting, the village has spread to cater for the growing numbers of tourists, who have told each other of this special place that they have found. The south coast village of Rodakino

On the south coast between Plakias and Frangokastello you find Rodakino Village. This pretty little village has only a couple of small kafenions but down by the sea there are 3 or 4 tavernas strung along the two nearest beaches, with at the far end the Polyrizos Hotel and a number of little pensions perched on the hillside amongst the olive groves in a tranquil little enclave. However the secret of Rodakino lies a further 10 minute walk over the nearby headland which will bring you to a 2km stretch of glorious virgin beach, backed by a rugged mesquite style landscape covered with a profusion of sweet scented thyme and wild lavender.
