Amazing Crete accommodations, selfcatering, villas & apartments

Far West Crete

Leaving Chania behind towards the west lies the Cretan village of Plátanos; beyond that point, the landscape of Far West Crete awaits the curious visitor. The descent to the westernmost coast of the island all the way from Plátanos is spectacular to say the least: a series of narrow road bends stretch above a coastal plain of unprecedented beauty. White, sandy beaches can be seen in the distance; neither cars nor tourists can take anything away from the overall beguiling nature of the place.

The brand new pair of villas named Falasarna Heights lie right outside Plátanos, nearest from Chania; each of them complete with a private pool and terrace. One of them can be rented together with a self-contained studio, where additional guests might be accommodated: a location where only you and your beloved ones will enjoy the spell of Far West Crete, right in the heart of the Mediterranean, for there are no other buildings nearby. The Falasarna Apartments, also located in Plátanos, are a small group of studios and apartments to accommodate between two and five guests each. There are superb hiking routes departing from Plátanos, which make both Falasarna Heights and Apartments ideal choices for active holiday goers!

For those in search of holiday tranquility, it is worth noting that the best beach areas in Far West Crete are those near Falasarna, Elafonissi, Balos, Gramvousa and Kissamos. All the accommodation options handpicked for you by Amazing Crete lie exceedingly close from these beach areas yet they maintain their privacy and upmarket exclusivity. The old city and harbour of Falasarna lie just north from the beach of the same name; in ancient times it used to be an important urban settlement, defended by a city wall and a bastion that can still be visited right outside the chapel of Áyios Yeóryios.

Kissamos itself, sometimes referred to as Kastelli Kissamou, is a busy little town located on the seafront. As is common for Cretan villages, Kissamos also has a harbour that saw its heyday in antiquity. Nowadays, it is a beacon of Cretan authenticity thanks to its local stores and cafés. Archaeological excavations underway in Kissamos downtown are revealing how important this urban nucleus used to be for the life of the island in ancient times. From the harbour of Kissamos depart regular ferries to mainland Greece; be sure not to miss a privileged view of the island from the sea! Helena Luxury Villas and the Mediterranean Seafront Apartments are two different options located in this charming fishing village.

The former are a pair of two-bedroom villas designed by the renowned Greek architect Aristomenis Karoudakis. They are located in the breathtaking location of Cape Spada, overlooking the bay of Kissamos and the forgotten pirate castles in Gramvousa. They both come complete with private infinity pools where you will be able to enjoy the sea and mountain views of this Mediterranean jewel in Far West Crete. The Mediterranean Seafront Apartments lie only 2km outside of Kissamos, very close to all the facilities you’re ever likely to need when on holiday. There is a taverna and a pool bar located next to their superb swimming pool, offering traditional Cretan dishes, as well as numerous sandy beaches nearby. All in all, Far West Crete is an excellent choice for those willing to break away from daily stressful routines, bearing in mind the proximity to the international airport of Chania, which makes the location convenient and easy to reach. Summer bliss at the tips of your fingers!
