Danaos is
smack in the middle of the old bustling town of Chania, no more the 500
metres from the city centre and the old Venetian Harbour. Here you can
find whatever you desire - shops, excellent food including some excellent
fresh fish tavernas, history, culture and music.
Danaos is
also a perfect base for exploring the old town of Chania and the
surrounding countryside.
Chania is
situated on the northwest coast area of Crete with wonderful sandy beaches
and surrounded by beautiful untouched nature. In the distance behind the
city are the towering white mountains "Lefka Ori" . Here is a
true hikers paradise with splendid mountains and beautiful gorges to
stroll through, acres and acres of olive and orange groves.
The city of
Chania is full of architecture from the sieges of the Venetians and the
Turks. The heart of the city is the bustling Venetian harbour dating
from 1537. Here people meet at cafés and tavernas.
The narrow
streets behind the harbour offer a unique experience with the beautiful
portals and balconies, you can explore these narrow back street for hours
and hours and still feel the need to keep meandering along. The market
place is at the crossroads of the old and the new city and has everything
to offer - food, fish, meat, vegetables, spices, cheese stalls, souvenirs
and one or two traditional tavernas with daily cooked Cretan specialties.
