Kamilari, Kalamaki, Matala, Agia Galini
There is
a rich variety of activities available in the
Kalamaki, Kamilari, Agia Galini and Matala area. These include
the archaeological sites at Faistos, Agia Triada and
Gortina. Many varied day excursions including to the
nearby fishing village of Lendas, the monastery at
Preveli and Palm Beach, and other mountain
monestaries and villages where you can sample the
different cultures. Coach tours are available from
Zaros, with its beautiful lake, to Kamares and the
summit of Mount Psiloritis.
There are typical old kafeinions, tavernas with
traditional Creten dishes, cooked in wood fired
ovens including some specialities from Grandmothers
Kitchen.
The people are invariably friendly and will provide
you with any information you need, including taxis
and car rental. Moires and Timbake are the nearest
small towns where doctors, pharmacies and banks are
located, with markets on Friday and Saturday
respectively.
