Beaches in Rethymnon area
The beaches in these areas are sandy and some places mixed with pebbles and stones, there are large stretches where you can be on your own and a couple of places with beach bars, sun loungers and parasols.
The endangered turtles “careta careta” use parts of the beaches for their nests. Therefore you are kindly asked not to go to the beach during night time from mid May to mid September, in order not to disturb the animals while laying eggs and hatching.
