The area of Platanes
The is an abundance of supermarkets, tavernas, bars, fast food outlets that stay open till the early morning hours, cafes, souvenir shops, mini bank and also quite a lot of night life. 

The large sandy beach of Platanias is within a 5 minute walk and extends in both directions, there are also water sports on the beach. Platanias is an extremely popular area because of its central position and offers the holiday maker everything needed to have a memorable time in Crete.  

There is a regular bus service that runs along the coast and connects all the hotels and the holiday accommodations to "Rethymnon" the historical Venetian town, from here you can take a bus to Chania to the west or Heraklion to the east. 

There is also a taxi rank and a little excursion train at the centre of the village.
